The Top 5 Ways to Tell Your Northern Michigan Wedding Story with Decor Rentals

Updated: Mar 16, 2021

Are you having a destination wedding in the Charlevoix, Petoskey, Gaylord, Harbor Springs, Bay Harbor or Traverse City area? Let us help tell your wedding story with decor rentals!

Some blogs like to say that you set the tone for your wedding with your invitations. I say they only tell part of the story. Considering that most people now send information electronically, and prefer to schedule events with Google calendar and others, paper goods likely end up in the trash. (Note: this is also a great place to save money as well. Pick a cute design on Minted or similar sites that speaks to the two of you and corresponds with the vibe you're going for. For example: greenery, geometrics, modern or art deco styles are all very pretty ideas. Order in plenty of time and you're set).

Let's start telling your story with the decor elements you've chosen. And what better place to set that tone than with what you've chosen to decorate your ceremony with? As guests find their seats, what do you want them to see? Your ceremony backdrop will most likely be the first thing to catch their eyes. Traditional ideas would be a wooden arch or arbor. Add a touch of elegance by having it draped or add a swag or two of floral/greenery or pampas grass. More modern ideas might be a circle or triangle piece. Heart carries all of these styles and we can add draping and floral/greenery, and more!

As guests arrive to the next stage of your wedding, the cocktail hour, they might see cocktail tables with gorgeous linens or pretty candles. Small, inexpensive glass or mercury glass in your favorite metallic accent work perfectly here. Or how about a cocktail table uplit in just about any color? Nothing can create such an elegant and timeless feel as scattered candles or create a party atmosphere like the uplighting we can use. At Heart, we have a nearly endless variety of candles, lighting options and more to choose from.

As soon as your guests have their favorite beverage in hand, they will make their way to the seating chart to find where they are seated. This is another perfect place to put in your personal touches. Do you have a rustic theme? Have your seating chart put on antique windows; most local rental companies carry them. We do! If you want elegant or vintage, rent a mirror in that style. Is modern more your thing? Rent acrylic panels and have them lettered and numbered. Table numbers, welcome signs and order of events signage are also fun places to customize. We have vintage books, bottles, lanterns, vinyl records, agates/stones and even beakers and flasks! A creative rental company should have tons of options here! Heart does.

When guests have made their way to their seats, where they typically "camp out" for the night, have a beautiful setting for them. Here is another place to get wonderfully creative and add your touches. We cannot say this enough! Pull in those classic blues, corals and more with linen and napkin rentals. Options here are nearly endless! Guests typically spend the most time at the tables, so why not make it an experience for them? Do you want your guests to have a tactile experience? Have the tables set with velvet linens. Who can resist running their hands over velvet? I know we can't! If rustic elegance is more your vibe, rent a Panama linen. It's got both a rustic, yet gorgeous, look at the same time. Or how about that boho look we still hear so much about? How about one of our cotton gauze handmade runners that can be custom ordered? Heart carries all of these fabrics for your tables and more!

Once guests have eaten dinner, wouldn't it be fun if you've added personal touches throughout the space for them to explore? Antique books if you're a reader or lover of history. Or globes for the world travelers? And again those beakers and flasks would be fun to add with some simple floral or greenery details for the scientific types? And for a beach wedding here in northern Michigan, we've used driftwood collected from the area, sand and even beach glass. And what better way to showcase Petoskey weddings than Petoskey stones?

And bonus! A sixth idea! One of our most popular rentals are our furniture lounges. Guests love taking a break from the dancing to hang out in the lounge with friends or family they haven't seen in years. Make it a showcase, especially with eclectic vintage pieces! History gives such a great guest feel. Guests love to check out these items! Our ruddy pink vintage loveseat is one of our most popular choices for building a lounge or sweetheart table around. Add in a great neutral group of side and coffee tables, a complimentary rug and accessories. So much fun! For the beach and outdoor weddings, wicker and rattan furniture are a popular choice. It's casual and laid-back. Mid-century modern styles are perfect for a throwback style of wedding. We've got something for every style in this category.
