When Carly of @carlylynnevisuals reached out a few weeks ago in regard to doing a styled shoot at @castlefarms in Charlevoix (northern Michigan), I knew right away it would be a good fit for us! Her inspo photos showed a wood two-piece arbor draped with fabric, and that combination is one of our most popular rentals. The primary colors were rusts and reds and the use of natural elements such as pampas grass were evident.
My first thought for the arbor was pairing it with one of our area rugs with red and coral, and that red matched beautifully with the red fabric that Carly found.
At the base of the arbor, I added a jute lantern and two of the bottles from the collection I have been curating for about three years. Collecting JUST the right bottles sounds easy, but it does take time. I wanted different colors: brown, green and clear and unique shapes. The bottles come from wines, liquors, Irish cremes and even a spicy pickle jar! Check out some of the collection here. On the other side were geo hurricane vases, pampas grass in an authentic whiskey/moonshine jug and natural spheres.
No inspiration/styled shoot is complete without a sweetheart table! These are a popular request and I design one for almost every single wedding that I do. For this table, I added a coral velvet linen (which I have been saving for just the right creation, and this was it!)
One of the activities I try to do for every shoot that I am part of is actually design and style TWO different settings for any tables. The first set up was "Light" and included natural hyacinth chargers (one of our newest styles), gold flatware, vintage orange diamond cut goblets, cream linen napkins, gold agate slices and the highlight of the table, four white capiz shell votive candle holders. Taper candles in a flower-shaped holder added a bit of whimsy to the table.
The second set up was "Dark" and included those same chargers, but they were paired with rose gold flatware, vintage amber goblets, greige fringed linen napkins, brown agate slices, and bronze and glass votive candle holders. The tapers this time were peach in those same flower holders.
And for even more WOW factor for the day? How about a true vintage wicker peacock chair that I had just found the day before? This gorgeous piece is a rare find. She does need a bit of TLC though, a perfect job for in the off season. Here, her first look was with a hand-dyed cotton gauze fabric that matched the ribbon on the floral perfectly! At the base was a couple of those glass bottles with pampas grass and bunny tail.
For the second styling, I draped it with mustard yellow cotton gauze and topped that with a white vintage scarf. At the base was that same jug repurposed.
Why TWO set ups for the sweetheart table and the peacock chair? The intent behind many editorial shoots is to create content, whether for social media, websites, or in some cases, the creation of content for brand new photographers. I love working with brand new vendors and if there is anything I can do to help, I'll do it. Especially for something as fun as this shoot turned out to be!
